This monitor works so well, we really love it. Easy to install, good battery life, and a pretty clear picture. At first I thought there might be a problem with the battery not charging, but right before I called customer service I decided to just take a quick peek at the battery. Turns out that the battery connector is kind of tenuously holding on to the port. If ever the battery says it's low and you feel like it shouldn't be, just try pushing the connector back into the port gently and 8 times out of 10 it'll show it's full charge and keep on working.

We got an off-brand to start and it stopped charging somewhere in the fourth week of using it, so I went with Infant Optics for our next try. At first I was turned off by the price point but then I found this little camera. It is reliable and does the job I need it to do. It has a great picture and sound is good, especially if you select "loud" on the volume setting. My LO kind of "mutters" for a while when he is waking up and it is sometimes a quick minute from muttering to screaming, so I like to know when he is starting to rouse. I can hear him pretty well with this monitor. We currently live in the basement of my in-laws' house, and the camera does great upstairs, on the second floor, and even outside on the patio or in the garage. I took away one star because the battery doesn't last as long as I would hope, but as long as I plug it in every night it does well throughout the day.

We have owned the DXR-5 for 2.5 years and have had a mostly positive experience. The DXR-6 was purchased to replace the aging DXR-5 but we ended up returning it. The biggest complaint is that the DXR-6 (as the other review mentioned) does not have VOX or ECO mode. This means that you will hear background noise near the camera whenever the monitor is on. The older DXR-5 would turn off the screen and mute the sound if no sound was detected that exceeded a certain threshold. When sound is detected that reaches the threshold, the DXR-5 will turn on the display and the sound. The newer DXR-6 will turn off the screen after a certain amount of time, but the sound will never mute. If a loud sound is detected, it will also not turn the display back on. We also had disconnection issues with the DXR-6, even after turning off Wi-Fi in the house.
On a positive note, the range of this camera is excellent compared to the DXR-5. The quality of the daytime (not infrared) image was also excellent. This camera/monitor is very easy to use and set-up and the menu is very easy to navigate. If this unit had the VOX feature like the older DXR-5, we would have exchanged this unit for another DXR-6 to see if the connection issues were present on a second unit.

I bought this as a replacement for the Infant Optics DXR-5, so a lot of my review will compare the two. This DXR-6 has some added features the DXR-5 didn't have, like room temperature, LEDs that indicate that your kid is making noise when the monitor is turned down, and a microphone in the monitor to talk to your child. It has also improved on some of the issues I encountered during my time with the DXR-5, the DXR-6 camera no longer has an external antenna (the 5 did and after a few falls the antenna broke off), the controls are much more intuitive than the 5 and the external antenna on the monitor is bulkier and sturdier than the previous version. For the price, this is a great monitor and has very good range, my daughter's room is on the opposite side of the house and I've never had an issue with reception using either DXR-6 or the previous model.

I bought this to keep an eye on my infirm father who lived with me. I would turn the volume on the receiver all the way up at night so I could confidently go to sleep knowing that I would hear him if he called out or if he got out of bed. Later, when he needed home health aides, I could leave the monitor trained on him in his bedroom. This enabled me to get other things done (or just rest) while they worked with him. I could keep an eye on them as I wished and I could respond quickly if they needed me. Sound and picture quality are good. Picture goes to b&w under dim lights, more often than one expects. It tears up batteries like trolls under a bridge, so I always plugged in both the monitor and receiver. This little contraption saved my sanity by giving me a little breathing room and the confidence to get some sleep at night.

So far, this was an easy install and the battery life seems to be working well. We replaced our higher end Infant Optics because the monitor attena broke and you had to buy a whole new set. This monitor seems much more durable and the price is right. The attena is attached to the monitor unit, so it can’t break off easily.
